Why masking is important
Using a mask will break down cross-site identifiers.
Having a different email on every site means they'll have a harder time selling data to others, as well as be unable purchase data based off the email in order to target you.
The site can then only collect data themselves, but if that data is not linked to a cross-site identifier, it becomes worthless.
This also aids with disrupting data aggregators.
Masks and Control
Using masks also give you unique insights into what sites do with your information. By using different addresses for every site, you can monitor activity on each mask as it relates to the site it was used for.
You also have more distinct control over site's access to your inbox. No need to search for hidden unsubscribe messages, wonder where spam is coming from, or who leaked your email.
Simply disable a mask, and all forwards from that address are paused.
How to use email masks
HiddenLogin makes it extremely easy to set up email masks for every site.
- In the app or extension, go to your email masks section, and click the "+" icon in the top right.
- Enter the site the mask is being created for.
- Click the newly generated email mask to copy it to you clipboard.
- Use the copied email mask to sign up for the site.
All email masks forward to the email address you used to sign up for HiddenLogin.
You can check that inbox for any inbound emails.
How to disable email forwarding for a mask
In the app you can toggle the switch next to an email mask to pause forwarding.
This will disable any inbound emails that are sent to that address.
Emails sent while a mask is disabled are not recoverable.
Important: HiddenLogin is only effective if you use a unique mask for every site, otherwise your data can be linked together, and your true identity might be able to associate with your masks.
